Texas land descriptions: the GLO survey grid
Texas never adopted the PLSS. As a former independent republic it kept the General Land Office (GLO) survey system. Land is tied to an original survey and abstract number within a county, with a separate block/section style in the Panhandle.
What to know about Texas
- Abstract-name style: 'A-123, John Smith Survey, Harris County'.
- Panhandle block/section style: 'Sec 18, Blk M-23, Lubbock County'.
- Never apply PLSS township-and-range logic to Texas land.
